Plugged in but nothing happens? A phone that won't charge at all is frustrating — but the cause is often a simple, cheap fix. Here's how to diagnose it.
1. Rule out the cable and charger
Test with a different cable and wall adapter you know work. Cables fail internally all the time, and it's the easiest thing to eliminate first.
2. Clean the charging port
A blocked port is the most common culprit. Lint compacts into a hard plug at the bottom of the port and stops the cable making contact. Power off and gently clear it with a wooden toothpick — many "dead" phones charge perfectly after this.
3. Force restart
Sometimes it's a software freeze. Force-restart the phone and try again.
4. Look for damage
Inspect the port with a light. Bent pins, corrosion (from moisture), or a loose feel when you plug in all point to a worn or damaged charging port.
The fix
If the port is physically worn or damaged, replacing the charging-port flex assembly is a straightforward DIY repair — far cheaper than a new phone or a shop visit. Our charging-port kits include the flex, tools, adhesive and a video guide.
