The Non-Genuine Part Warning on iPhone, Explained

How to Fix the 'Non-Genuine Part' Warning on iPhone | SelfRepairKit

After replacing an iPhone screen or battery with an aftermarket part, you may see a warning like "Unknown Part" or "Important Display Message." Here's what it means and what to do about it.

Why it happens

Apple pairs certain components (screen, battery, camera) to the phone's logic board at the factory. When you fit a non-genuine part — or even a genuine part from another phone — iOS detects the mismatch and shows a notice for around 15 days, after which it moves to Settings → General → About.

Does it affect my phone?

No. Your screen, battery and Face ID all work normally. The warning is informational — it doesn't slow the phone down or disable features. On batteries, you may see "Battery Health: Unknown" instead of a percentage.

How to avoid it

  • Choose an OEM Service Pack screen where you want zero notices
  • Choose a Diagnosable battery, pre-paired to report health normally
  • Accept it as normal for budget/aftermarket parts — it's cosmetic
