How do I know my battery needs replacing?

Check Settings → Battery → Battery Health. If Maximum Capacity is below 80%, or you see "Service" or unexpected shutdowns, it's time. Other signs: the phone dies quickly, gets hot while charging, or the back is bulging (a swollen battery — replace immediately and stop using it).

Step-by-step

1. Power off and remove the two bottom screws

Remove the two pentalobe screws beside the charging port.

2. Heat and open the screen

Warm the bottom edge for 60–90 seconds, apply the suction cup, and gently lift while sliding a pry tool around the edges. Open like a book — a flex cable connects the screen to the body.

3. Disconnect the battery first

Remove the bracket and disconnect the battery connector before anything else — the golden rule of phone repair.

4. Remove the old battery

Pull the black adhesive tabs slowly and steadily. If a tab snaps, apply a little heat and ease the battery out with a plastic card. Never puncture or bend a lithium battery.

5. Fit the new battery and re-seal

Lay in the new adhesive, seat the battery, connect it, reconnect the screen, and test that it boots and charges before final sealing.

Will I get a "battery health unknown" warning?

On newer iPhones, an aftermarket battery can show "Unknown" and a service notice for ~15 days. This is normal and doesn't affect performance. To avoid it, choose a Diagnosable battery, pre-paired to report health normally.
