5 Phone Problems You Can Fix Without Replacing Anything

5 Phone Problems You Can Fix Without Replacing Anything | SelfRepairKit

Not every phone problem needs a new part. Before you buy anything, try these fixes — plenty of "broken" phones are working again in five minutes.

1. Phone won't charge

Before assuming a dead port, clean it. Lint packs into charging ports and blocks the connection. Power off and gently clear it with a wooden toothpick. Try a different cable and wall adapter too.

2. Screen won't respond

A frozen touchscreen is often software. Force-restart: on most iPhones, quick-press Volume Up, Volume Down, then hold the side button. On Samsung, hold Power + Volume Down for 10 seconds.

3. Battery drains fast

Check Settings → Battery for a rogue app. Turn off background refresh, lower brightness, and update iOS/Android.

4. Poor call quality / no sound

Clean the speaker and mic grilles with a soft brush — they clog with pocket dust.

5. Slow performance

Clear storage (aim for 10%+ free), close background apps, and restart weekly.

When it IS the hardware

If the screen is cracked, the battery is swollen, or the port is physically damaged, that's when a repair kit is the fix. Browse repair kits by model.
